Those wishing to stay in the centre of Canberra will find a fairly limited choice of accommodation. Situated approximately 8 km / 5 miles from Canberra Airport (CBR), the city centre contains only a handful of hotels. The majority of both motels and hotels in Canberra can be found along Northbourne Avenue and within many of the city's smaller, northern suburbs, such as Ainslie, Downer and O'Conner. Further lodging in the Canberra area is located on the southern side of the city, around Barton, Kingston and throughout Capital Hill.
Those looking for budget accommodation in Canberra have countless options to consider, which include the halls of residence at the Australian National University (ANU), available during academic holidays, from the end of November to February. Many popular hostels also reside in Canberra, such as the YHA Hostel along Dryandra Street, on the north-western side of the city, and the City Walk Hotel, offering value for money in the middle of the Civic district. Also worth considering, a selection of cheap motels can be found in nearby Queanbeyan, just 12 km / 7 miles from Canberra.
